Department of Ed redesign

User Research and UX Design

A full redesign of the Department of Education's website

Project overview

The problem- The website was very outdated and some important information was hard to find because the site was a long series of inconsistent links.

The solution- We wanted to redesign the site so that the important information was easier to find and the site was overall more visually appealing

My contributions- My contributions were mainly in the research portion of the project. I was charge in finalizing the problem and the solution. I was not alone in doing the research but the final decisions for the website were mine. Everyone contributed at least something in each portion though so I also had a hand in designing the prototype as well.

Key Insights

  1. The website was far too text heavy

  2. Links should have bigger font

  3. Too much going on in the front page

with the use of the heuristic evaluation we were able to identify key things that needed to change and aspects of the website that already worked well but could be better optimized.

Major UX iterations

We heavily focused on the websites navigation because that is where we felt that the website was most lacking
